PE exams are offered in a variety of disciplines and sub-disciplines. While no engineering experience is required to sit for the PE exam, NCEES statistics show that first-time examinees are more likely to pass the exam with at least four years of engineering experience. The PE exam goes beyond testing academic knowledge and tests expertise gained in the practice of engineering. You apply directly with NCEES to take the PE exam. In Florida, you must have earned an ABET-accredited degree and passed the FE exam before you can take the PE exam. Like the FE exam, the PE exam is developed and administered by NCEES. The second NCEES-administered exam on your path to licensure is the Principles & Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. PRINCIPLES & PRACTICE OF ENGINEERING (PE) EXAM You are also eligible to take the Principles & Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. Please see the Engineer Interns page for details and the application. You can take the FE exam once per testing window and no more than three times during a 12-month period.Īfter you have earned your bachelor’s degree and passed the FE exam, you are eligible to apply for Engineer Intern (EI) certification in Florida. If you fail the examination, you will receive a diagnostic report showing your performance for each of the major topics covered on the exam. You will receive an email notification from NCEES with instructions to view your exam results in your MyNCEES account. You should select the discipline (options are listed at the Exams page on the NCEES website) that best corresponds to your undergraduate degree.Įxam results are typically available within 10 business days. NCEES will provide you with an online FE Reference Handbook at the exam site. You may take a 25-minute break after the first section of questions. You will be given five hours and 20 minutes to answer all 110 questions. The exam is discipline-specific for both morning and afternoon sessions and is divided into two sections of approximately 55 questions each. If you are not happy with the choices, you can browse through the available dates at other NCEES-approved test centers. Next, you are presented with a list of available exam dates. During the registration process, you select your exam location. Registration and scheduling of testing appointments are made through your MyNCEES account. It is administered at NCEES-approved Pearson VUE test centers during four testing windows: January-March April-June July-September and October-December. The FE exam covers subjects taught in a typical EAC/ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science engineering program.Īpply directly with NCEES to take the FE exam. No engineering experience is required to take the exam. The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, which is developed and administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), is generally taken during the final year of a four-year EAC/ABET engineering program or a four-year ETAC/ABET engineering technology program, or immediately after graduation, while the course work is still fresh in your mind. Pre/post-processors, code-generation, one-command deployment, performing release, running functional tests, etc. It poses a question that spans a lot of these editor customizations – should they really be part of the editor? Don’t they belong to the build tool instead? Many of them indeed belong to the build tool. Remember the example where you add a shell-script that runs selenium tests. At your own risk, of course, and soon you may spend hours debugging which two files are in conflict and are blocking your IDE, but that should be available. Simply dropping a file (in any jvm language, for example) should have the ability to alter the behaviour. So a very important thing I would like to see from IDEs – they should be more easily customizable. It’s an overkill to write a plugin for such small things. If you want to write a plugin, you may need to know OSGi, SWT, a complex plugin API and whatnot. Luckily, IDEA had these things configurable, but it might not have had them. Very minor things that it turns out are important for me. And hovering on a class didn’t show its package. I didn’t realize it until I had to switch to IDEA and there ALT+arrows didn’t jump through camel humps, but only through whitespaces. The cool text editors allow you to write simple scripts that plug into the editor and thus let you improve your experience. Minor, even subliminal pitfalls maybe, but still – an editor isn’t leaking anything because it doesn’t have anything to leak.īut let’s elaborate a bit more on customizability. The IDE may make it too easy to generate tons boilerplate code, that will later be hard to support. Novice developers may commit absolute build paths, the IDE might have a very cool support for a framework, but lack one very important parameter that appeared in the latest version, so that you have to make a workaround. So, you might be better off going for a text editor?Īdditionally, the IDE may leak something into the application. But with a text editor you can easily plug shell scripts that run your grails application and then run selenium tests, while running a grails application from within the IDE is (or at least used to be) painful. The IDE has syntax coloring, autocomplete where possible, jumping to files with shortcuts. Writing Java in anything other than an IDE should be restricted only for educational purposes, otherwise you are losing too much.īut it’s not that black-and-white for other languages, where the IDEs are not that mature or you cannot have some of the features that you have in statically-typed/compiled/jvm/. It is a no-brainer there and the IDE wins by a huge margin, because of all the wonderful features like refactoring, debugging, hierarchies, integration with frameworks and build tools. Let’s first look at the trivial example – Java (and C#). And of course, I’m starting with the disclaimer that the distinction between “IDE” and “editor” is not that sharp. Either way, it’s an interesting topic to discuss – what are the pros and cons of using an IDE vs using a customizable text editor (vim/emacs/Sublime/…). Are you using an IDE, or an editor? Are you a “hardcore” programmer, or you are one of those sissy modern developers that use IDEs? Have you personalized your emacs or vim to make you 200% more productive? Or do you think that emacs is useless, at least for Java. The idea behind this is for the interface itself to train the user."Īnd Mikogo is not stopping here. "The new interface is user-friendly and encourages users to click through the software while help tips point them in the right direction. "While building a new-look interface and adding further features, our main aim was to continue providing an innovative and easy-to-use platform that can be used by anyone in a range of workplaces and industries," explains Mark Zondler, Mikogo's Managing Director and Co-Founder. Wild Strike is entirely mediocre and I think he probably gets a bit weaker when that's unlocked. Evolve is handy and nice to have but again it's rarely a winning pick up. Havoc/Sentinel/Exhume can all do lots of really fun tricky stuff and can be very strong but I don't think any of them are close to being win conditions for the character. With Ironclad I'd say Immolate is the one that most feels like a missing piece from his set of tools before you have it. It varies how important they are and some of the weaker stuff you unlock actually waters down the card pool. Unlocking obviously gives you more options but I don't think you're handicapped without them. With the bad guys designed to test different aspects of any deck (survive heavy damage, early on take on massive armour deal with multiple foes deal with debuff-happy enemies or those that grow in power over time). And forces you to vary your tactics according to the cards you get. This limits the number of cards in play (the only criticism I have is that playing through the first Act can become a bit repetitive) forces you to always be building a new deck and teaches you some core principles of deck building, such as looking for synergy (in sometimes unexpected places), avoiding bloat, and ensuring deck balance. Most other games rely on ever-expanding options as new card sets are released over time, and everyone ends up playing the same few proven decks against each other, anyway. It's also a great introduction to deck builders, because it is so focussed and has a closed set of finely balanced cards. But I’m struggling to think what might pip it to number one on my list in December. And the graphics and sound are functional at best. Perhaps it doesn’t have the greatest story. Dunno, it’s mechanically probably the most cohesive game of the year. They're AI players masquerading as humans. Those 99 other competitors? Chances are, they're not actually players. How to level up heroes? Spend months playing or break out the credit card. A player with a Level 1 hero is no match for a player with a Level 9 hero, all other things being equal. Heroes can also gain experience and level up, getting stronger and unlocking new abilities. When a player loses a match, the current hero unit falls and is replaced by the next hero unit. Hero units have their own attack and defense values that are added to those of the battle units, as well as special abilities. In addition to choosing units for the battlefield, players unlock and choose three "Hero" units to lead those troops into battle. They do not confer any benefits on the chances of winning. With most of the auto-battler competitors, while microtransactions might be available, they are cosmetic in nature only. But it doesn't take too long to start noticing some serious flaws. (Druids have magic Treants are anthropomorphic organisms that resemble trees Lichs are undead creatures that are almost skeletons Gnolls are hyena-like humanoids.)Īt first, I really quite enjoyed playing this game. Units are mostly the standard mythical fantasy fare: Druid, Treant, Green Dragon, Lich, Gnoll, Orc, Harpy, Vampire and so on. When playing games such as "Team Fight Tactics," for example, I always had to keep a browser window open to remind myself how to evolve weapons and which units to equip with them.įans of the "Might & Magic" franchise need to know that as tie-ins go, it's pretty tenuous. One of the things I liked about this game is how easy it was to pick up and learn. Beefy units up front, ranged units toward the back and that's all it takes. Completing a game only takes 10 to 15 minutes, in a "three losses and you're out" format.įor the most part, strategy is out the window as it's usually best to huddle all units together around a bonus-giving dragon. Acquire three units of the same type, and they'll merge into a stronger version of the unit.ĭespite the number of opponents increasing to 100 from the standard eight (in genre-leading auto-battler competitors "Team Fight Tactics," "Hearthstone Battlegrounds" and "Dota Underlords"), "Chess Royale" is actually much simplified. Players build their board as the game goes on, earning gold and experience each round that is used to expand the number of units on the board and draft new ones.Įach unit (sometimes called a hero or champion) also has various classes that give it synergy with other units of the same class, and getting enough of them on the board unlocks a bonus ability. Players fight each other in random one-vs.-one matches by placing drafted units onto a "chessboard," and when the round starts, the two teams of units fight one another automatically. If you're new to auto-battlers, a fan-generated genre that skyrocketed into popularity last year, they are tactical strategy games with drafting elements from card games. What sets “Chess Royale” apart is the nostalgic theme of “Might & Magic's” old-school fantasy RPG setting and the "royale" moniker, which judging by modern games now seems to mean "100 combatants, last man standing." The auto-battler genre is one that's still fairly new, and “Might & Magic: Chess Royale” is the latest entrant into an increasingly crowded field. Microsoft introduced 365 with the goal of eventually phasing out one-time purchases. Microsoft 365 Business plans include Office apps, plus additional features like access to Microsoft Teams and advanced security protections. It includes all of the features of the Personal plan, plus additional OneDrive storage (6 TB). Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions can be shared by 6 people in total. Subscribers also receive additional OneDrive storage (1 TB) and 60 free Skype minutes every month. Microsoft 365 Personal subscriptions can be used on up to five devices across Mac and PC, and it includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, and Access. This technology allows flexibility for businesses and their employees, as documents and programs aren’t simply tethered to the computer to which the program is licensed. Program upgrades are included with this fee, so whenever Microsoft updates its Office apps, you will automatically receive the newest versions.īecause 365 is cloud-based, it can be accessed via any device. As noted above, this product was formerly known as “Office 365” until it was rebranded in April 2020. Microsoft 365 is a subscription product, which you can pay for monthly or annually. If the user gets a new computer, or switches to a different OS, they’ll have to repurchase Office. Microsoft Office programs must be purchased for the user’s operating system (OS) – either a Mac or PC. Standard Office bundles come with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. In the event of a Microsoft upgrade or a new version of Microsoft Office, you would then have to purchase the new package if you want to receive support. This key gives you access to the program for as long as you like. You are either given a physical key card with your own specific download code, or you can download the program straight from the Microsoft website. Microsoft Office (desktop) can be purchased for a one-time payment for the program to be installed on a single device. While both offer the same programs that Office users are accustomed to, the upfront costs and platforms they’re used on vary. You can still pick between Microsoft Office (desktop) and Microsoft 365 (web version). These changes haven’t hurt Microsoft one bit. Microsoft 365 comes with the same Office apps as its predecessor, with Microsoft promising new apps and services to come. This statement coincides with Microsoft’s “ Modern Lifecycle Policy,” which requires you to have the latest version of the product in order to receive full support.Īs of April 21, 2020, Office 365 has been rebranded to “Microsoft 365”. In 2017, Microsoft announced that Office users will no longer receive access to OneDrive and Skype after 2020 if they don’t subscribe to Office 365. Since then, Microsoft has continued to allocate more and more resources to its cloud-based service, luring in subscribers by offering them exclusive perks. While the apps in Office 365 were nearly identical to its desktop suite, certain features were rolled out only to 365 at first, like Morph and Designer in PowerPoint. In 2011, Microsoft launched its cloud-based subscription service Office 365, to compete with Google Drive. |
